Piquet’s statement reads: “I cannot escape the overwhelming thoughts of the immense pain, suffering, mourning, trauma, shock, and despair that the Palestinian people in Gaza are currently enduring. It is heart-wrenching to contemplate the loss of so many young innocent lives, entire families devastated, orphaned children, and the anguish of parents who have had to say goodbye to their children.
“I am also deeply concerned for the individuals held captive by Hamas, and I am relieved to learn that, thankfully, four of them have been safely released. Nevertheless, the visual and video evidence I encounter daily, depicting the horrors unfolding in Gaza, is utterly beyond comprehension.”
